Plot summary

A decade after the events of the earlier story, Allison MacKenzie, a young writer in the town of Peyton Place, learns that publisher Lewis Jackman wants to bring out her novel. Her mother Constance agrees only reluctantly when Allison travels to New York to meet him about the book. At home, Allison's best friend Selena Cross still draws criticism from neighbors over her past. Roberta Carter, who disapproves of her son Ted's closeness to Selena, is visited by Ted when he comes back from Boston with his new wife, Raffaella, a former Italian fashion model. Roberta looks down on the young woman and asks Selena to help drive the couple apart. Selena refuses and leaves angry; on the road afterward, ski instructor Nils Larsen comes to her aid.
