Plot summary
Two gunmen kill Scott Hood, the marshal of Oracle, Texas, and his widow Rose shoots one of them and is named temporary marshal until Sam Bass arrives for the post. Saloon owner Erica Page keeps her place open all night, and when Rose orders her to shut at three in the morning the women fight; Erica closes for the night, then has Jake hire a gunslinger, which brings Cane Miro to town. Erica has bought land along a planned railroad, and Mayor Polk warns her that she has overextended herself. Riding in, Cane is taken for Nate Signo, a man Rose has been seeking.

- Roger Corman rushed Gunslinger into production because a renegotiated union contract would cut the actors' working week from six days to five; he meant to shoot it in six days, but rain at the Jack Ingram Western Movie Ranch in Topanga, California, stretched the shoot to seven.
- Allison Hayes broke her arm when her horse slipped in the mud on Gunslinger; while the crew waited for an ambulance, director Roger Corman shot a reel of closeups of Hayes to splice into the final cut, using a double for her other scenes.
- The first sequence shot for Gunslinger was a love scene between Beverly Garland and John Ireland in a tree, and the tree's colony of red ants crawled on the actors and repeatedly bit them.
- Rain on Gunslinger forced exterior scenes to be rewritten for indoor shooting and others to be filmed under a tarp draped over the actors; Corman covered the audible rainfall by using the film's score and an assortment of sound effects.
- Beverly Garland twisted her ankle running down the saloon stairs but kept filming; it later swelled to twice its normal size, and when she returned to the set the crew cut the back of the boot and taped it to her foot.
- Beverly Garland, who played Marshal Rose Hood, called the part one of her favorite roles and said she thought she was the first woman to play a marshal in a movie Western.
- Gunslinger was mocked in a 1993 episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 that turned out to be the penultimate episode for the show's creator and host Joel Hodgson, who left after the next episode, Mitchell.
