Plot summary
In July 1995, Samantha Darko is grieving her brother Donnie and has begun sleepwalking. She and her best friend Corey leave Virginia for California to start over. Their car breaks down in Conejo Springs, a small desert town, where Randy, the local bad boy, offers help. The girls learn that a town boy, Billy Moorcroft, has gone missing, and that Randy's younger brother is missing as well. During a sleepwalking episode Samantha meets Iraq Jack, a homeless veteran living in a junkyard, and the two talk atop a windmill. He tells her the world has four days left. By morning a meteorite has struck the windmill, and Jeremy, a young man who bought the fallen rock, is studying it.
