Plot summary
Their vacation across Europe brings Chris, his girlfriend Natalie and Amanda, a friend to them both, to Kyiv, Ukraine, to see Chris' brother Paul before the group continues to Moscow, where Chris plans to propose. Paul pushes a detour instead: an extreme tour of Pripyat, the town beside the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, abandoned after the 1986 disaster. Guide Uri takes them in, joined by two backpackers, Norwegian Zoe and Australian Michael. Ukrainian soldiers refuse the van entry at a checkpoint, so Uri uses another way into the exclusion zone. At a river he points out a large fish that seems able to live on land, and says a Geiger counter shows the radiation is safe. Uri leads the group to the top floor of an empty apartment block, where they look out at the plant.

- Before release the charity Friends of Chernobyl Centers, U.S. attacked the film as insensitive to those killed and injured in the disaster. Producer Oren Peli replied that he had treated the victims with the utmost respect and that Chabad's Children of Chernobyl had written to him in admiration, while the British charity Chernobyl Children's Lifeline called the film disgusting.
