Plot summary
Two years are missing from Simon Cable's memory when he comes to in a hospital in 2002. Dr. Newman tells him that he died briefly. Simon is certain the year is 2000, and he does not recognize Anna, the woman he is told he married. A woman named Clair visits his room in distress, and the hospital staff insist nobody was there. Dr. Newman works with him to recover his past, and Simon learns that Peter, his brother, died before Simon and Anna met, which does not match Simon's memory of Peter being alive the last time they met. An orderly takes him for an MRI. An intruder injects him with an unknown substance. He comes to in 2000, where Dr. Truman blames a car accident and tells him he has no wife.
