Plot summary
Michael Carter takes Nicholas and Theo to see the movie Red Dog. Afterwards he tells his oldest son that the dog on screen is based on Blue, the dog he had as a boy. The story returns to his childhood in Western Australia, when Mick, fatherless and separated from his mother, is sent to be raised on his grandfather's cattle station. There he befriends a scrappy, one-of-a-kind pup, and the partly Aboriginal staff also become his companions. A governess, Betty Marble, is hired for the station.
