Plot summary
Space Shuttle Olympus carries Project Viper, an experimental mix of human genes and computer chips that was designed to adapt to any environment, Mars included. As the crew readies the first prototype for launch, a power glitch breaks its container open. On the ground, the Secretary of Defense orders the second prototype destroyed; it is stored at NovaGen Science, the manufacturer, and special agent Mike Connors gets the job. NovaGen's Project Viper head, Nancy Burnham, and her team, Steve Elkins, Sid Bream and Alan Stanton, are celebrating their work. A rogue police officer and his wife steal the second Viper from the high-security lab, shooting guards and technicians, and Connors chases them into a nearby forest.
