Redmond Gleeson
Biography
Redmond Gleeson, born Martin Gleeson in Dublin, Ireland, was an Irish actor who built his career across stage and screen. Inspired by James Joyce, American cinema, and his film hero Burt Lancaster, he moved to Australia before a scholarship took him to a university in Ohio, where he studied theater arts. After graduating, he settled in Aspen, Colorado, taking odd jobs, including as a dishwasher, and co-founded the High Country Players. He moved to Los Angeles in 1968 and spent eight years pursuing Hollywood work before larger parts came his way. At 46 he landed a starring role in Cattle Annie and Little Britches (1980), acting with his idol Burt Lancaster, and even coached him on Irish accents. He continued acting in film, television, and on stage.
