Plot summary
Maddie Barker is 32 and lives in Montauk, New York, where she bartends and drives for a ride-hailing service. The house she inherited from her mother carries unpaid property taxes, her car is being taken back, and bankruptcy is near. She finds a Craigslist posting from a rich couple who want someone to date their son, Percy. He is 19 and inexperienced, with no girlfriends, no drinking, no parties and no sex, and they hope a romance will build his confidence before he starts at Princeton. In return they offer a Buick Regal. Maddie goes to the animal shelter where Percy volunteers, and after she offers him a lift home, he mistakes her for a kidnapper and sprays her with mace.
