Plot summary
Cris Johnson earns a living as a magician in a Las Vegas showroom and adds to it by gambling, using an ability he keeps quiet: he can watch two minutes of his own future unfold. He once saw further, a woman walking into a diner, and he returns there twice a day hoping she will appear. FBI agent Callie Ferris has worked out what he can do and wants his help against terrorists preparing to set off a nuclear device in Los Angeles. Casino security notices his winning streak, and the men behind the bomb learn that he is the one person who could stand in their way.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Next (2007)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- In May 2006, Starz! Entertainment's 14-episode reality television miniseries Looking for Stars gave 200 contestants the chance to win a speaking role in Next; the role went to actor Marcus Welch.
- It was Nicolas Cage's idea for his character, Cris Johnson, to be a magician, and Cage suggested that his wife appear in the scene where a woman comes out of the audience to take part in the magic show.
- The motel where Cris Johnson and Liz Cooper stay was a facade attached to a real restaurant to make it look like a hotel; interior shots were filmed elsewhere, and the facade was removed after production ended.
- Saturn Films had the script extensively rewritten, almost eliminating its anti-authoritarian themes, and the DHS's role was replaced with the FBI; Cris became arrogant and far more prone to violent solutions.
