Plot summary
Jarrod and his pregnant girlfriend Elaine come to Los Angeles to see his friend Terry, who holds a party in his apartment and offers Jarrod work in the city. Terry's assistant Denise and his friend Ray sleep on the couch. At dawn the group wakes to mysterious beams of blue light. Ray looks into the light and is taken by the force behind it. Jarrod, Elaine and the others try to escape the alien invaders.

- In August 2010 Sony Pictures Entertainment was reported to be contemplating legal action against the Strause brothers, the directors of Skyline and owners of Hydraulx Filmz. Sony had paid Hydraulx to generate visual effects work for Battle: Los Angeles, but was never told the siblings were directing a rival alien invasion feature due for release four months before its own.
- On March 17, 2011 Sony dismissed its arbitration against Hydraulx and the Strause brothers, saying that after the discovery phase it was satisfied that none of the Battle: Los Angeles visual effects had been used in Skyline.
- The physical production of Skyline cost only $500,000, while with all the visual effects the total budget was around $10-20 million.
- Filming began in Marina Del Rey in February 2010 and continued through March 31, and most of the action was shot in the high-rise condo in which Greg Strause lives.
