Plot summary
In 2169 people are engineered to stop aging at 25, when a countdown begins on the forearm and kills them when it reaches zero. Time has become the money everyone earns, borrows and spends. Dayton, the poorest zone, is a factory town where barely anyone holds more than a day, while the rich of New Greenwich live for centuries. Will Salas, 28, is a factory worker there, and Rachel is his mother. One night he rescues Henry Hamilton, a 105-year-old, from Fortis and his gang. Henry tells him New Greenwich hoards the time and keeps raising prices so poorer zones run short, then transfers his years to Will and times out. Raymond Leon, head of the Timekeepers, believes Will killed Henry for them. Will heads to New Greenwich, where he meets the businessman Philippe Weis and his daughter Sylvia.
