Plot summary
Adam grows up in an orphanage on Down Below, the poorer of two twinned planets whose gravities pull in opposite directions and whose peoples are kept apart by law. As a child he meets Eden, a girl from wealthy Up Top, on a mountain that reaches close to the other world. Border patrol agents catch the two together; Adam is shot and Eden falls motionless. Ten years later Adam works on an anti-gravity cosmetic cream that answers to both gravitational fields, and Trans-world, the corporation whose headquarters is the only physical link between the worlds, hires him to develop it. He intends to find Eden there, and trades rare Down Below stamps with Bob, an employee from Up Top, for help reaching her.

- Variety reported from the Cannes Film Market in 2009 that Kirsten Dunst and Emile Hirsch were in talks to play the film's two leading roles; a few months later the same magazine reported that Jim Sturgess had been cast instead of Hirsch.
- Producer Dimitri Rassam said the movie depended on French financing but still could not be shot in France itself, because the country's tax rebate for productions was not generous enough to make filming there worthwhile.
