Meshach Taylor
Biography
Meshach Taylor was an American actor who got his start on the stage, touring nationally in Hair before settling in Chicago with the Goodman Theatre and the Organic Theater Company, where a performance in Athol Fugard's Sizwe Banzi Is Dead brought him a 1977 Joseph Jefferson Award. He moved to Los Angeles in 1977 and became best known as Anthony Bouvier, the deliveryman at an Atlanta interior design firm, on the CBS sitcom Designing Women, a part that earned him a 1989 Emmy nomination in the comedy supporting category. On film he played the flamboyant window dresser Hollywood Montrose in Mannequin (1987) and Mannequin Two: On the Move (1991), and he appeared in Damien: Omen II (1978). Later television work included the CBS sitcom Dave's World and a recurring role on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, and in 1998 he played Lumiere in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast.
