Plot summary
Charlie Waldo, once the LAPD's top detective, left the force in disgrace and dropped out of society. He lives in a tiny cabin on a hilltop above the city, keeps only 100 possessions, rides a bicycle and has a large, scruffy beard. Lorena Nascimento, a private investigator and his former girlfriend, comes to the cabin to ask for his help with a high-profile murder case. Alastair Pinch, a TV actor, is accused of the murder of his wife, Monica, and was drunk at the time. Pinch cannot remember anything. Waldo is at first unwilling, then agrees to stay on the case for one day.
