Plot summary
The grandfather says the earlier account of Kirikou and the sorceress was too short, so he takes the story further. He speaks of the years when Kirikou was still a small child and Karaba was still a sorceress, and the action belongs inside the earlier tale rather than after it. What the grandfather relates is a set of separate episodes rather than one long story, and in each of them Kirikou meets a different animal. The boy works as a gardener, a detective, a potter, a merchant, a traveler and a doctor, and the grandfather explains how each of those came about.

- Michel Ocelot had been opposed to sequels and spin-off products and only reluctantly made a second Kirikou film after the first one's success. He agreed to two illustrated books first, was offered television or DVD adventures, and chose a second feature, initially titled Four Stories of Kirikou, co-directed with Bénédicte Galup.
- Seventy per cent of the film's drawings were made by hand over four years by a Franco-Vietnamese-Latvian team, with the remaining 30 per cent created as computer-generated imagery.
