Eleanor's Secret (2009) on Netflix

Plot summary

After Aunt Eleanor dies, her house passes to the parents of Nathaniel, seven, and his older sister Angelica, and the family moves in. Angelica teases her brother, who cannot read. Eleanor's will gives Nathaniel the key to a locked room she never let him enter, and gives Angelica a porcelain doll. Inside, Nathaniel finds shelves of the tales she once read to him. A thunderstorm damages the house, and with no money for repairs he offers his parents the books to sell. Returning to the room, he finds figures from the stories alive, among them Alice, Puss in Boots, Pinocchio and Little Red Riding Hood. They name him their guardian and say he must read a magic spell aloud to keep them from vanishing. He cannot read it, and the witch Carabosse shrinks him to their size.
