Plot summary
At the South Pole the walruses hold the penguins under a rule of terror. Tommy and his sister head for the Equator, because stories tell of a jungle penguin warrior who lives there with six companions, heroes said to come to the rescue whenever someone is in danger. Maurice, a tiger-striped bird of the jungle, is flattered and accepts the task. He recruits the gorilla Miguel, the warthog Fred, the frogs Bob and Al and the tarsier Gilbert, and the group sets out. The bat Batricia joins them on the way, and the band of rescuers journeys on toward the far south.
