Edith Atwater
Biography
Edith Atwater was an American actress of stage, film, and television. Born in Chicago in 1911, she made her Broadway debut in 1933 and appeared in The Man Who Came to Dinner in 1939. Her film work included The Body Snatcher (1945), Sweet Smell of Success (1957), It Happened at the World's Fair (1963), Strait-Jacket (1964), True Grit (1969), Die Sister, Die! (1978), and Family Plot (1976). On television, she played Grace Morton in Peyton Place from 1964 to 1965, appeared in Love on a Rooftop during the 1966 to 1967 season, and was a regular on Kaz in the 1978 to 1979 season. Her other television credits included The Rockford Files, Hazel, and Knots Landing. Atwater also worked extensively on Broadway and was a governing board member of Actors' Equity Association. She died in 1986.
