Plot summary
Guy Lambert is an American singer who takes his act on a European tour, traveling with his entourage from Swinging London to Antwerp. Two women trail him along the way: Jill Conway, a beautiful heiress with little knowledge of the world, and Claire Dunham, a sexy and sophisticated socialite. A pair of ineptly comical jewel thieves has hidden smuggled diamonds in Jill's luggage, and a trio of bumbling Flemish detectives, in the manner of Clouseau, complicates the tour. A mysterious murderer seems bent on killing Jill.

- The script for Double Trouble was written as a vehicle for Julie Christie, then riding high from Doctor Zhivago, but MGM head Robert O'Brien wanted the film to star Elvis Presley instead, and the script was rewritten to fit him.
- Elvis Presley was paid $750,000 plus 40% of the profits for starring in Double Trouble, a deal that gave him a share of the film's earnings.
- Producer Irwin Winkler recalled that the film had a director who could hardly walk up the stairs to meet him and who told him he was going blind.
