Plot summary
A pine tree carries a heart that the woodcarver Geppetto cut into it, a mark of his secret love for Leona. Years afterward he finds what is left of that tree and carves a marionette from the wood, naming him Pinocchio. The heart's magic brings the puppet to life, and Pinocchio begins to wander the village. There he meets Volpe and Felinet, two thieves who answer to Lorenzini, a theater director with his own puppet company. Lorenzini offers to buy the puppet, and Geppetto refuses. Pinocchio slips out a window and follows some village boys to school.
