Plot summary
In 1653 Salem, a sixteen-year-old Winifred Sanderson is banished by Reverend Traske after she refuses to marry John Pritchett. Rather than leave her sisters Mary and Sarah, she takes them into the forest, where the Mother Witch presents Winifred with a magic book and warns the sisters never to cast the Magicae Maxima spell. Nearly four centuries later, Salem teenagers Becca and Izzy get ready for Halloween and Becca's sixteenth birthday, turning down a party invitation from their former friend Cassie Traske. In a magic shop once home to the Sanderson sisters, the owner Gilbert gives Becca a candle, and lighting it under a full moon brings the witches back.
