Plot summary
Dr. James Xavier studies human eyesight and devises eye drops meant to let the eye take in wavelengths beyond ordinary sight, including ultraviolet and x-ray. Because tests on animals and volunteers would yield data he considers unreliable, he uses the drops on himself. His funding is cut off despite his colleagues Dr. Diane Fairfax and Dr. Sam Brant making the case for the work to the investors. The drops do more than he intended, and the range of what he can see keeps growing. Dr. Sam Brant urges him to stop until the effects are understood, warning that the eyes lead straight to the brain. Xavier refuses.

- Corman says the idea for the film was his: it began with a scientist, was rewritten so the lead was a jazz musician who had taken too many drugs, then he threw the outline out after a few pages and went back to the scientist.
