Plot summary
An anthology of three horror stories. A straitlaced English professor, Julie Eldridge, turns down a date with one of her students, then agrees to a second invitation. Millicent, a reclusive woman, believes her seductive twin sister Therese is evil, and she confides in Dr. Ramsey, the family therapist. Amelia, who lives alone in a high-rise apartment and is dominated by her mother, buys a wooden Zuni fetish doll as a birthday gift for her boyfriend, an anthropologist; a scroll with the doll says its gold chain holds the spirit of a Zuni hunter called He Who Kills, and the chain works loose.

- The film was cut when first shown on Brazilian television in March 1981, where strict censorship regulations demanded that the third segment, "Amelia", be completely omitted; forced to show only two episodes, the TV station simply changed the title to Duas Histórias de Terror, or Two Horror Stories.
- The Boston Globe praised Karen Black's "tour-de-force performance", but Black felt the film led to genre typecasting and many B-grade horror roles, saying "I think this little movie took my life and put it on a path that it didn't even belong in."
- The "Amelia" segment was the inspiration for the 1997 parodical short film Karen Black Like Me, which featured Emil, played by Ira Rosenberg, a gay man terrorized by a possessed sex toy.
- Black stars in all three segments and plays dual roles in the second; she initially turned down the project but reconsidered when her then-husband, Robert Burton, was cast in the first segment, "Julie".
- The "Amelia" segment was based on the short story "Prey", which first appeared in the April 1969 issue of Playboy magazine.
