Plot summary
In the fall of 1980, Jake Bradford, an all-state high school pitcher, starts his first year at a Texas college and moves into an off-campus house with the baseball players. His roommate is Billy, nicknamed Beuter. Jake rides around campus by car with Finnegan, Roper, Dale and Plummer, looking for women. Roper and Finnegan are turned down by two women, though Beverly tells Jake she likes him and he notes her room number. At a team meeting the coach presents the new players and sets two house rules: no alcohol, and no women upstairs. The team ignores both and holds a drunken party. The next morning Beuter goes home, worried his girlfriend may be pregnant. A night out begins at a disco, where Jay's remarks to a bartender spark a fight and the team is thrown out.
