Plot summary
Paul and Jessie Duncan have an eight-year-old son, Adam, who is killed in a collision the day after his birthday. As the couple leaves a church, Dr. Richard Wells, an old professor of Jessie's, approaches them with an offer: he can clone Adam, an illegal procedure requiring a new location and identity. The Duncans reluctantly agree, and the experiment succeeds. Adam grows into a healthy boy until his eighth birthday, when a violent nightmare strikes. Richard tells Paul that night terrors are typical for boys that age, and that Adam's life can no longer be predicted now that he has reached the age at which the first Adam died. The visions continue, and Adam grows distant and fearful.

- As part of the promotional campaign, Lions Gate set up a website for the film's fictional Godsend Institute, which claimed to be able to resurrect the dead. So many people wrote in asking whether it really could resurrect dead family members that the site had to be changed to say it was only an advertisement.
