Plot summary
The Crawley family is in London in 1930, where Lord and Lady Grantham and Edith and Bertie Pelham attend a play. The next day, at a ball hosted by Bertie's cousin Lady Petersfield, news of Mary's divorce from Henry Talbot breaks, and Lady Petersfield asks her to leave before her guests of honor arrive. Robert and Cora return to Downton Abbey, while Mary stays at Grantham House to welcome Cora's brother Harold Levinson, who has come from America after their mother Martha's death. Harold brings Gus Sambrook, the adviser credited with saving him from ruin, and tells the family that he lost Martha's fortune; he proposes investing Downton's remaining assets to recover the losses. Neighbors, troubled by the divorce, decline a dinner invitation.
