Plot summary
Tessa Young and Hardin Scott have already survived a great deal together, and every new difficulty has only strengthened their bond. Then Christian Vance reveals that he is Hardin's biological father, a deception Hardin confronts at his mother's wedding reception; he storms out with a bottle of whiskey rather than hear Vance explain. Tessa is the one person who can read the emotions building under Hardin's surface and calm him when they erupt, and he needs her. As truths about both families come into the open, Hardin grows darker and pushes her and the rest of the people in his life away. She is unsure whether she can save him without losing herself.
