Plot summary
During the Cold War, Sergey Serebrennikov is a private at a Soviet air base with only weeks left to serve. He keeps a photography hobby his superiors barely tolerate, and Luisa, the commander's secretary, is part of his life there. When fighter pilot Roman Matvejev arrives, Sergey is ordered to help him, and the time the two spend together turns friendship into an attraction the Soviet system treats as a crime. Roman pushes Sergey to study acting in Moscow rather than go back to the family farm. Around the base, the commanders keep tight control, and the KGB is watching.
