Plot summary
Duke Lambert learns that his unexpected houseguest is Death, who has taken the form of a man, Prince Sirki, and lets him stay at his villa among his family and houseguests. The prince has come to learn why people fear him, and the women of the party are drawn to him at first, then uneasy when they sense what he is. Only Grazia, the young woman Duke Lambert had expected to marry his son Corrado, stays near him without fear. As the prince grows attached to her, Duke Lambert begs him to give her up and return to his own duties.

- Universal's 1971 television production of Death Takes a Holiday, which starred Melvyn Douglas, was marred by declining filming standards, and Myrna Loy recalled in her biography that a frustrated Douglas stormed off the set and returned home to New York after a tour guide interrupted one of his dramatic scenes to point out Rock Hudson's dressing room.
