Evelyn Venable
Biography
Evelyn Venable was an American actress who was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and acted in high school plays before touring with Walter Hampden in productions of Cyrano de Bergerac and Hamlet. After being noticed during a Los Angeles performance, she accepted a Paramount contract in 1932, having first declined other offers. She took leads or second leads in a string of 1930s pictures, among them Death Takes a Holiday (1934), where she played Grazia. Her later work included supplying the Blue Fairy's voice in Walt Disney's Pinocchio (1940), and posing as the model for that character as well. Around two dozen movies filled her screen career in the 1930s and 1940s. She left acting in 1943, went back to studying at UCLA, and joined the faculty, where she taught classical languages and staged Greek dramas. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame recognized her film work.
