Guy Standing
Biography
Guy Standing was an English-American actor who worked on stage in London and New York before moving into pre-Code Hollywood films. Born in London, he was the son of the actor Herbert Standing and part of the Standing acting family. He was listed as a stage actor in London in 1891, and in 1892 he traveled to New York for a notable stage appearance at Koster & Bial's Music Hall. He joined Loie Fuller's company, toured with Charles Frohman, and appeared in The Little Minister and The Right of Way at Wallack's Theatre. By 1910 he was a well-known stage actor. He held a commander's rank in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during the First World War and was appointed a CBE and later a KBE. In the early 1930s he began working in Paramount films, and he was known for authority parts, especially as Colonel Stone in the film Lives of a Bengal Lancer (1935). He died in 1937.
