Biography

Katharine Alexander was an American actress who worked in both the theater and in films, appearing in 44 movies between 1930 and 1951. Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, she originally intended to become a concert artist, and it was at a violin recital that Samuel Goldwyn spotted her and offered her a chance on the stage. She made her stage debut in 1917 in A Successful Calamity with William Gillette, and over the following decades she developed into one of Broadway's leading ladies, with credits including Hotel Universe, The Party's Over, Little Brown Jug and Time for Elizabeth. She turned to the screen in 1930 and kept acting in films for the next two decades.
