Collaborator (2011) on Netflix

Plot summary

Robert Longfellow has watched his newest play fail in New York City, and his marriage is not in much better condition. He heads to Los Angeles to see his mother, Irene, to meet a girlfriend he keeps secret and to consider what to write next. His neighbor from childhood, Gus Williams, a right-wing ex-con, holds him at gunpoint inside the house as police surround it. Robert has avoided Gus since they were boys. As they talk, the subject turns to Robert's work and what creative writing is, and to settle Gus he shows him how to improvise dialogue, with the two of them acting out scenes.
