Plot summary
In 1940, with England under heavy bombardment, Captain S. Melly takes over the experimental 1313 Anti-Aircraft Battery, whose gunners are half men and half women. Sergeant Major "Tiger" Bloomer barks at the troops but cannot swear in front of the women, and dodges the advances of Private Jennifer Ffoukes-Sharpe. Bombardier Ready, Sergeant Tilly Willing and Sergeant Len Able lead the mischief, and the battery would rather spend the war in one another's beds than at the guns. Melly stages a fake air raid to test them; the crews dive into their own bunker, the Snoggery, instead of loading the cannon, which is made of wood because real guns are scarce. Melly and Bloomer answer with hard training, long route marches and violent exercise.

- Sid James was unavailable for Carry On England because he was appearing in the stage play The Mating Season; on its opening night at Sunderland Empire Theatre on 26 April 1976, he suffered a heart attack on stage and died at 62.
- Carry On England was originally certified AA (14+) but was cut to a non-age-limited A certificate by toning down topless nudity and removing a comedic use of the word 'fokker'. It still flopped and was withdrawn from some cinemas after three days.
- The Brigadier was written for Kenneth Williams and Private Easy for Barbara Windsor, but both were unavailable: Williams was in the stage play Signed and Sealed, and Windsor in Twelfth Night at the Chichester Festival Theatre.
