Peter Jones
Biography
Peter Jones was an English actor, screenwriter and broadcaster who made his first stage appearance in Wolverhampton at 16 and later worked in repertory theater in East Anglia. Born in Wem, Shropshire, he reached the West End in 1942 in The Doctor's Dilemma. On radio he starred with Peter Ustinov in the improvised comedy In All Directions from 1952 to 1955 and supplied the voice of The Book in the early Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio series, later repeating it for the LP and television version. He spent 29 years as a panelist on Just a Minute and played Mervyn Bunter in Radio 4 adaptations of the Lord Peter Wimsey stories. Television audiences knew him as Mr Fenner in The Rag Trade, and he appeared in Minder, The Bill and Rumpole of the Bailey. His films included School for Scoundrels (1960), The Return of the Pink Panther (1975) and Chariots of Fire (1981). He died in 2000.

Jones starred alongside Peter Ustinov in the BBC radio comedy In All Directions between 1952 and 1955. The show was largely improvised, and Frank Muir and Denis Norden later edited the tape for broadcast.
