Plot summary
Michael Martin rides the roads of Ireland robbing the wealthy; the money goes to a revolutionary society, and the robberies turn him into an outlaw. In Dublin he falls in with the famous rebel called Captain Thunderbolt, whose real name is John Doherty, and joins him as a lieutenant known as Lightfoot. He also falls in love, and the trouble that grows around him puts the people close to him at risk.
