Barbara Rush
Biography
Barbara Rush was an American actress who worked across stage, film and television. Born in Denver and raised in Santa Barbara, California, she graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1948 and trained at the Pasadena Playhouse before joining Paramount Pictures. Her screen debut came in The Goldbergs in 1950, and early science fiction roles followed in When Worlds Collide (1951) and It Came from Outer Space (1953); the latter earned her a 1954 Golden Globe for most promising female newcomer. Rush often portrayed willful, wealthy women or polished society types, and occasionally villains, notably in Robin and the 7 Hoods (1964). Her films also included Bigger Than Life (1956), The Young Lions (1958), The Young Philadelphians (1959) and Hombre (1967). On television she was a regular on Peyton Place, played Nora Clavicle on Batman, and appeared on All My Children and 7th Heaven. She also acted in theater and won a Sarah Siddons Award for Forty Carats.
