Kathleen Ryan
Biography
Kathleen Ryan was an Irish actress who made British and Hollywood films from 1947 to 1957. Born in Dublin, she acted with Dublin's Abbey Players and at the Gate Theater in Longford before Carol Reed spotted her and gave her the lead in Odd Man Out (1947). Under contract to Arthur Rank, she saw offers turned down until the deal lapsed and she returned to film work. Her credits included Captain Boycott (1947), the English-made Christopher Columbus (1949), in which American censors cut her scenes, and the American film The Sound of Fury (1950), directed by Cy Endfield. In 2020 The Irish Times placed her fortieth on its list of Ireland's greatest film actors.
