Did you know?!Facts and trivia about How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- CBS gave Chuck Jones and MGM a $315,000 budget for the special, more than four times what Bill Melendez was offered to produce A Charlie Brown Christmas; a 1992 report in The Daily Herald-Tribune called it a record for a cartoon at the time.
- Thurl Ravenscroft went uncredited on screen as the singer of "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch", so the song is sometimes attributed to Boris Karloff; Dr. Seuss had neglected his screen credit, then called Ravenscroft to apologize and wrote letters to columnists nationwide saying Ravenscroft sang it.
- After Boris Karloff recorded his lines as the Grinch, sound engineers removed the high pitches from his voice to create its "gravelly grunt".
- Chuck Jones traveled to New York City to sell the special to a sponsor, pitching it with the storyboard and acting out all the parts himself 28 times.
