Big Jim McLain (1952) on Netflix

Plot summary

The House Un-American Activities Committee treats Communist Party membership after 1945 as high treason, yet most of the people it summons plead the Fifth Amendment rather than answer. Jim McLain and Mal Baxter, who work together as committee investigators, are frustrated by this. Mal fought against the Communists during the war, and his feelings often get the better of him. The two are assigned to Honolulu to carry on the work of an earlier team. There they receive help from Chief Dan Liu of the Honolulu Police Department and from Max Veneby, a former Communist. Some of their time goes to the search for Willie Namaka, said to be able to name names. Jim also meets Nancy Vallon, a war widow who works as assistant to Dr. Gelster, the doctor treating Namaka.
