Veda Ann Borg

Biography

Veda Ann Borg was an American actress of film and television who started out as a model and then signed with Paramount Pictures. When studio officials proposed changing her name to Ann Noble for her screen work, she argued that her own name fit her personality better and kept it. She went on to appear in more than 100 films, among them Mildred Pierce (1945), Guys and Dolls (1955) and You're Never Too Young (1955), as well as Chicken Every Sunday, Love Me or Leave Me and Thunder in the Sun. In The Alamo (1960) she played the blind Nell Robertson. She moved into television as the medium grew, working from 1952 through 1961 on programs such as Bonanza, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Red Skelton Show, and early in 1953 she became the first actress to play Honeybee Gillis, in the small screen version of The Life of Riley.

In early 1953, Veda Ann Borg became the first actress to play "Honeybee Gillis" on The Life of Riley TV series. A short time later, Marie Brown took over the part, followed by Gloria Blondell.
About the name
When Paramount signed Borg, studio officials wanted to rename her Ann Noble, but she argued that her own name better described her personality and kept it.
