Plot summary
On the first anniversary of Cinderella's wedding to the Prince, the Fairy Godmother, Jaq and Gus hold a picnic to celebrate. Since the wedding, Lady Tremaine has had her daughters Drizella and Anastasia doing Cinderella's old chores, and Anastasia wanders away from them and comes upon the gathering. There she learns that the Fairy Godmother's magic is what brought Cinderella to the ball and to the Prince. The wand falls to the ground, Anastasia carries it home, and a mishap with it turns the Fairy Godmother into a statue; only then does Lady Tremaine believe in its power. Lady Tremaine uses the wand to return to the day the Grand Duke came with the glass slipper, and Cinderella's marriage to the Prince is undone.

- Cinderella III: A Twist in Time was the final film of DisneyToon Studios Australia, which was gradually shut down while the film was still in production; departments were closed and their staff laid off as tasks finished, and after the film wrapped in July 2006 the studio closed and its remaining equipment was auctioned off.
- It was Disney's first direct-to-video sequel to officially put "III" in its title, even though it was not the studio's first direct-to-video sequel to be a franchise's third instalment.
- For the time-travel scenes that look nearly identical to the 1950 film, the shots were re-drawn rather than re-used: director Frank Nissen said advances in aspect ratio, frame format and digital cel-shading meant re-used colors would lose two or three generations by the time they were processed.
- To give the Prince a personality, several writers were recruited to revise his dialogue for the right balance of self-awareness, self-deprecating humor and sincerity, and the filmmakers based him on romantic-comedy leading men, citing actor Hugh Grant as a particularly influential example.
- A subplot in which Gus discovers a parallel universe inhabited by mice was storyboarded but cut, because the filmmakers found it distracting from Cinderella and the Prince's relationship.
- Hayden Panettiere recorded the film's theme song, "I Still Believe", one of her earliest attempts to establish a music career; her music video was heavily rotated on Disney Channel and included as a bonus feature on the film's DVD.
- The film shared songwriters Michael Weiner and Alan Zachary with Twice Charmed, a Cinderella-inspired stage musical on the Disney Cruise Lines, but Disney insists it is not a spin-off of that production, and Frank Nissen called any similarities between the two merely coincidental.
