Plot summary
Elina has already defeated Laverna twice, and now the Guardian fairy Azura invites her to the Crystal Palace as an apprentice. There she meets the other students who will train alongside her for the Flight of Spring, the ritual dance that draws the first rainbow of the season: Linden, who speaks with animals; the pigtail pixie Shimmer; the moon fairy Lumina; the sparkle fairy Sunburst; Faben; and the wood nymph Glee, whose puffball Dizzle takes a liking to Elina's companion Bibble. Elina's early lessons go well, which only sharpens Sunburst's dislike of her, and a quarrel between the two draws Azura's reprimand. Far off, Laverna, the Enchantress's envious sister, plots to stop the Flight of Spring and hold Fairytopia in winter.
