Plot summary
A college student in Shanghai, Din Song comes from a working-class family. Ten years ago, his childhood friend Li Na left the neighborhood with her father, Mr. Wang, and she lives in wealth now. Din wants the friendship back. An elderly man hands him a teapot, and from it comes Long, a dragon who grants three wishes to whoever holds it. Long tells Din he is the tenth and last master, and that setting Long free will let the dragon enter the Spirit world. Mr. Wang, whose business is failing, sends three goons under Pockets to recover the teapot. Din's first wish gets him away from them.

- Wish Dragon was the first Sony Pictures Animation film to be produced by Base Animation, a new studio within the visual-effects firm Base FX, and the first to have its animation and visual effects provided by Industrial Light & Magic.
- Writer-director Chris Appelhans based Wish Dragon on his friendship with a cousin of one of his colleagues, whom he met during a visit to China in 2014.
