Plot summary
Mystery writer Agatha Christie has a silver cup engraved as a present for Archie, and he greets it with scorn. At a publicity event for her novel The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, the couple are tailed by Wally Stanton, an American reporter. Archie then asks Agatha for a divorce because of his secretary, Nancy Neele. Driving away from the house that night, Agatha crashes, and police find the wrecked car the following morning; the press hear of a letter she left for her secretary. She travels by train to Harrogate and books two weeks at the Harrogate Hydropathic Hotel as Theresa Neele of Cape Town. Stanton questions Agatha's secretary, who says Agatha hid a coded message in newspaper advertisements.
