The Surrogate (1984) on Netflix

Plot summary

Frank Waite and Lee are a well-off married couple whose intimate life has stalled. Frank has been impotent for eighteen months, and Lee moves between sympathy and criticism. Frank's temper takes over, and he starts seeing a psychotherapist, who ties the anger to the impotence. The therapist suggests they bring in Anouk Vanderlin, a mysterious European woman who devises fantasies meant to unlock passion and heal the marriage. The sessions instead raise the tension between the spouses. Anouk keeps coming back with new scenarios for the pair. Eric, a neighbor and friend of Lee, cross-dresses. Meanwhile the police are trying to solve a string of stabbings carried out at night.
