Trailer

Plot summary

Eccentric aliens travel from planet to planet to judge the species they find. If a species meets their standards, they welcome it as a friend; if not, they destroy the planet. After finding a space probe carrying information about humanity, the alien galactic council debates whether to destroy Earth or make humans members of their council. They decide to test one random human by granting limitless power to do absolutely anything for ten days. Should the power be used for evil, Earth will be destroyed. Neil Clarke is the chosen human, a teacher in a London school who struggles under Headmaster Mr Robinson. Neil is attracted to his neighbor Catherine West but lacks the courage to approach her. He has no idea he has been given the power.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Absolutely Anything (2015)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Terry Jones credited the film's idea to the H. G. Wells story "The Man Who Could Work Miracles", though he said it changed out of all recognition, and revealed he and Gavin Scott had been writing the script for 20 years before Mike Medavoy rang up in 2010 and asked what scripts he had hidden in his bottom desk drawer.
  • The film was the first movie to feature all the living Monty Python members together since The Meaning of Life in 1983, and the first Python project made without Graham Chapman, who died in 1989.
  • It was the last film released with Robin Williams in the main cast, coming out a year after his 2014 death, and also the last film director Terry Jones worked on before he died in 2020.
  • Before Douglas Adams died, he looked over the script and said that the scenes with Dennis the Dog were the funniest scenes in it.
  • Australian singer Kylie Minogue recorded a promotional single, "Absolutely Anything and Anything at All," for the soundtrack, while Queen drummer Roger Taylor performed the film's title song.
  • The six-week shoot took place in London, where the production took over a disused school in Hornsey Lane and built studios inside it to use as a base, then shot the interiors of the flats in Earl's Court.
