Robert Bathurst
Biography
Robert Bathurst is a Ghanaian-born British actor who started out in the Cambridge Footlights, serving as its president from 1978 to 1979. He made his television debut in 1982, playing Prince Henry in the pilot of Blackadder. He became widely known for his role as David Marsden in Cold Feet, which ran from 1998 to 2003, and for playing Mark Taylor in Joking Apart, a part that led a critic to name him Best Comedy Newcomer of 1993. His films include Heidi (2005) and The Thief Lord (2006). In the theater, he has appeared in Michael Frayn's Noises Off and Noel Coward's Present Laughter. A Classic FM series he presented, based on his stage role in Alex, won a Gold Award at the Sony Radio Academy Awards.

First role
Bathurst made his professional stage debut by joining the second cast of Michael Frayn's Noises Off at the Savoy Theatre. He took over as Tim Allgood from Roger Lloyd-Pack and remained at the Savoy for a year.
A role that slipped away
Bathurst was persuaded by a casting director to audition for the role of James Bond in The Living Daylights, but he believed the audition was only an arm-twisting exercise to pressure Timothy Dalton into taking the part.
