Plot summary
During senior calculus at Covington High, Katelyn Ogden explodes, drenching the classroom in blood. Police question the class, rule out an attack and cannot identify a cause. Mara Carlyle tells her classmates it could happen again, and an unknown number texts her to say the sender has had a crush on her for years. After Katelyn's funeral, Mara buys mushrooms from Jenna and Joe Dalton, the siblings who sell at school, and has tea with her best friend Tess, where Dylan tells them the text was his. They start dating, and a football game and a house party are each cut short when a student explodes. Classes are cancelled, the town calls the explosions the Covington Curse, and FBI Agent Carla Rosetti is assigned to the case.
